Does anyone know about how much it costs to build one of those neat modern houses with alot of glass windows?
My husband and I live in Columbus, GA which is 1 hour and 45 minutes south of Atlanta, GA. We both absolutely love the new modern houses. We want one about 2000 square feet or so and with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. About how much would that cost and who could we go to, to help us design one and get our house construction under way?

- well, there are a lot of variables... if you figure about $800-$1,000 per square foot, this would give you a decent quality level... I'm basing this on California information, you may be able to do this for about $500 per square foot or less depending on what level you want to go to. makd sure you go with a reputable contractor... keep in mind you're also paying for service, so it may be wise to go with the one you feel comfy with, not just the lowest bid.
- New construction anywhere in Middle GA will run between $190 and $310 per square foot. Given the complexities of the type of structure you have in mind, plan on closer to the high end. A custom architectural building plan for a 2000 sq foot home can run from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars and higher, depending on your personal preferences. There are many companies in Atlanta and middle GA that can design and / or build the type of house you want, and there may be existing homes that fit your needs as well. If you build, you will also have to find a lot suitable for, and that will permit the construction of, this type of home. There are some companies, like IKEA, that offer this type of modern home for sale prefabricated- it is delivered in large compartments and must be assembled by skilled laborers. This is usually cheaper than designing and building from scratch, but you have no ability to influence the design. I am a Realtor in Atlanta, and will be happy to help if I can. I can recommend many builders and designers that can help you, and I can help you find a location. (Please note, I receive no referral or kick back from recommending builders or designers, but would receive a commission or referral fee if I help you buy a lot or referred you to an agent who did.)
