interior door question?
from a designer's perspective, is it a big deal for a master bathroom door to swing open into a hall instead of the bathroom? the hall is more of a nook, roughly 3'6" wide, and 3' deep. if the door swings open into the bath, it'll overlap another door. if it opens into the hall, it'll work fine, but is this asthetically acceptable? designers please help.

- I am not a designer, but i will tell you my opinion anyway. I dont think it really matters. Is it asthetically acceptable for it to swing inwards and overlap? I have a similar problem with my bathroom. My hubby and i have been looking into getting a Bifold door. It gives a room a unique twist and solves all the space / door issues.
- No, it will not matter...it will look like a closet door. If you have a linen or guest closet in the hall you will know how it will look. Bathroom doors swing in to avoid opening the door into the hall and striking an unsuspecting passerby....Perhaps you may consider changing the door it swings into? Either way is fine.
- Does the hall or nook end just beyond the bathroom? If not having the door open out would block the passage. Is the other door in the bathroom a door to a closet? If that is the case I agree 100% that the best solution is for he closet to have bifold doors.
- Without doing a renovation, yes you can get away with the door swinging into the hallway. I have some suggestions for you to consider: Perhaps you would consider using a pocket door? Of course you will have to decide if there is enough room to install a door between your wall space, also look to see if there is electrical in the way or any ducting etc. Another option is a barn door application, this is used when the door slides over the wall when in a opened position. Depending on the styling of your home (e.g. traditional, comtemporary, country etc), you may look at a tempered glass door or a wood door. You can visit www.hafeleamericas.com websit and access the architectural catalogue and look under sliding door hardware to get a visual of a barn door application. A nice simple bi-fold door is also an option, this is easily found at your local home depot stores. I hope that this helps.
