What are your views on public bathrooms?

Not that I have any intention on even using public bathrooms, but what do you think of them? Are smelly public restooms rare where you live at? Males: In what conditions are the mens' rooms when/if you go in there? Females: In what conditions are the women's rooms when/if you go in there?

1. I have no ideas if smelly restrooms are a rarity around here, I never got to courage to use one XP When I was traveling cross country, there were plenty of nasty restrooms. I brought a can of Lysol with me.
2. Well, it really depends on where you go. I'm female, and female bathrooms can vary wildly depending on where it is. Gas station bathrooms usually are the worst, but newer places are better. I, myself, don't really like public restrooms because I'm borderline germaphobic, and random hairs in places make me gag...literally. And wet paper on the floor is disgusting...bleh. Plus I also have a shy bladder, so if there's someone else in the bathroom at the time I can't go..no matter what...so I hate public bathrooms, the long and short of it. But one funny story. The bathroom in Bloomingdales in the Mall of America. The men's bathroom was a sink and a toilent. One. The women's had 20 stalls, and 10 sinks..and a sitting room. The same store. I'm not kidding. That bathroom was actually nice. Posh even. But those are my views. Gas station bathrooms are usually ew. Department stores are usually pretty okay.
3. We're all human and we all need to use them on the odd occasion. Just makes me smile why you would call it a bathroom?!? I thought that was where you went for a bath. I know Canadians call them Washrooms, which is even more bizarre! In England they are called public toilets; which I think is exactly what they are.
4. The thoughts of public restrooms makes me quessy. just because its a public area people feel that they could do what ever they want there. But the womens restroom are generally cleaner then the mens restrooms.
5. For the most part, public restrooms around here are pretty clean. There are times when they get dirty, but if you point it out, they usually say it's because they were short handed that day. I believe that if the restrooms are normally clean. I worked in a gas station with inside restrooms. We cleaned restrooms at the end of the shift, more if someone said they were dirty or we saw they were dirty. The women's was always in better shape than the men's. (no pee on the floor, trash IN the trash basket, etc.) \ The men's was horrible!! They couldn't hit the toilet OR the trash basket. They'd leave soap dripping all over the sink. Once, three guys went in at once, one peed in the toilet, one in the trash can, and one in the sink!! That was sooo disgusting!
6. I think they should at least be sanitary.
7. The only thing that REALLY disgusts me should be port-a-potties. Other than that, if it's a place I can relieve myself, I shouldn't be complaining.
8. They vary widely depending on what area your in. Public restrooms in the "poverty" areas are generally in much worse shape than public restrooms in more "upscale" areas. Not only in the condition of repair but how the customers treat them. One thing that I find very troubling is that the toilet seats are often loose and "slide around". I don't know what causes that but it's very unsettling to have the seat slide out from underneath you just as you are about to be fully seated!
9. Most of em make me puke...I try my best not to go in them.
10. I used public bathrooms( Turkish) in my youth. There was pool, was very warm, but clean. Now it's miss.
11. i only use them if i really gotta go. if not, they r gross eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww
12. The mens rooms are pretty clean. It's hard to get a stall because there is always some guy tapping his feet and saying, I voted for Bush in them and making hand signals under the stalls. Weirdos every where.
13. Icky!!!! I will try to avoid using public toilets like the plague! Where I live nearly all the public toilets are digusting, filthy, toilet roll every where, graffiti everywhere, blocked sinks, missing loo seats, broken loo seats, wet loo seats (not always sure if its wee or water). Its just disgusting, there isnt always soap or toilet roll and i refuse to drip dry. :) There have been times of desperation like when i was pregnant i couldnt really wait to go for a wee, but when i did have to use them i darent actually sit on the seat or touch the taps. im a bit of a clean freak and always worry about germs (especially where my kids are concerned) and i just dont think they are clean enough.
14. Im from a tourist area and they clean them about twice a day so they are actually quite decent except on saturday night after the bar lets out then theres usaully a sick girl in there.
15. Well, i think public restrooms are gross!!! If i HAVE to sue one, i try not to touch anything while iam in there, and iam in and out as fast as i can be. Iam living in China now, and the Chinese restrooms are the worst!! They are like out houses, of course not all of them. I have been to some places to eat dinner and the restroom was out back behind the trash pile, and it was just a hole dug in the ground with a makeshilft room around it!!!
16. Some are perfectly fine and very well kept with flowers and air freshners but some, especially the ones in the street are really filthy.
