Is it recommended to use mosaic Noce travertine on a shower floor if it is sealed, or is it too porous?

We're remodeling a bathroom and I've heard conflicting information about shower floors. The natural stone is 1" x 1" tumbled noce travertine to be professionally installed and sealed in a 4 x6' area on the floor of the shower. One designer said it is too porous and is not recommended. A reference book does recommend it as a good material for wet areas. Any experience in this area is appreciated by professionals.

  1. Travertine can be sealed. However, I would not recommend it for a floor of any type. It is soft and will not really stand up to the usage. I have used travertine on countertop for a bath. We had it sealed and it is performing beautifully. You might consider a limestone. It too can be sealed. It is not as durable as granite or marble, but is more durable than travertine. j j
