questions regarding designing a restaurant?

So Im doing a floor plan for my interior design class for a restaurant... 1. By code what is the min. spacing between returns and supplys? 2. How many footcandles should you have for dinning area and bar area?

  1. The codes are going to depend on which jurisdiction you live in. Each city or town often has its own code guidelines. Because every area is different, a jurisdiction will typically work off of a national standard withits own provisions. There are several different codes that could be followed such as BOCA, NBC, UBC just to name a few. Chances are since this is a class your instructor should have specified which code to follow. Also specific lighting levels may be set by codes, especially in areas of egress. In a restaurat and bar you would certainly want ambiant lighting, to create modd and atmosphere, and you also have to keep in mind the visual task. Dimmable lights would be recommended because on one occassion the restaurant may need to be bright and formal and then on another occassion it may need to be intimate and romantic. Hope that helps some.
