Product Design Questionnaire for a Apple Camera?

I'm basing my product in A2 level on a Apple Camera in which i will call the 'ICam'. I'm producing this as they haven't yet made a camera on it's own but they have incorporated it into the ipods, iphones and ipads. I'd like you to fill out a short questionnaire for me to help with my research in what you'd want a icam to look like! Do you own a Apple branded product? If a ICam was produced by Apple, do you think you would buy it? If a ICam was produced, what features would you include in it? Eg; Wifi, touchscreen etc. Would you prefer the design of the camera to be colourful and wacky or like the original style of Apple, Sleek and modern? Touchscreen or no touchscreen? Would you like WiFi included? What material(s) would you like the camera to be made out of preferably? (Plastic or metal) What price range would you expect it to be in? Thanks! Caroline x

  1. I don't know what kinds of responses you'll get but I, for one, won't buy anything (and I mean anything) made by this company.
  2. Firstly could I just point out that once, many moons ago at the very dawn on digital photography there existed three Apple digital cameras. The Quicktake, 100, 150 and 200. 1) Yes (Macbook Air, iPod, iPhone) 2) Silly question to ask as it depends on question 3. 3) Again silly question to ask. Good design is not born out of committees (forgive me for being a little Italian in my design ethic). If design was made by focus groups we wouldn't have Steve Jobs (or James Dyson, or any of the worlds greatest designers). In fact Jonathan Ives (Senior VP at Apple) admits himself Apple doesn't do focus groups. 4) Ditto 5) Touchscreen is rather Apple's thing isn't it... 6) WiFi probably is nice, but...actually don't. Put WiFi on the second generation. 7) Anodised aluminium. 8) Because it has an apple logo it'll probably cost double the price of anything else...so how about £300? Just one last thing...don't call it an iCam...doesn't roll of the tongue. For example Apple calls their built in webcams the iSight! Think of something a little wittier... Edit - Another reminder is Apple industrial design lives on the ethos of minimalism. In addition the lines are clean and simple, and the Bauhaus influence is really quite strong.
  3. Do you own a Apple branded product? MacPro, iMac i7, MacBook, MacMini, iphone If a ICam was produced by Apple, do you think you would buy it? No. I am already committed to the canon system. If apple made a modular camera that could taken canon lenses then maybe, but this is exceptionally unlikely. If a ICam was produced, what features would you include in it? Eg; Wifi, touchscreen etc. Apple declared war on the floppy disk, the optical disk and I would even reckon internal storage drives are next. The iCam will store it's pics on the icloud. There may be a memory card slot, probably SD as that will fit their imacs, but there will be wifi, there will be automatic storage to the icloud. It will have the generic ipod port, perhaps a male version and will dock with ipads and iphones. Would you prefer the design of the camera to be colourful and wacky or like the original style of Apple, Sleek and modern? Apple are going down the minimal button sleek and stylish route. There will be a button to power on and that will be it. Touchscreen or no touchscreen? Touchscreen over liveview LCD Would you like WiFi included? It's apple. see my comments re icloud. Wifi is a given. What material(s) would you like the camera to be made out of preferably? (Plastic or metal) Will be lustre finish metal with glass over LCD. What price range would you expect it to be in? about 1/3-50% more than if it were made by a competitor.
