Interior design with kitchens?

I definitely want vintage white cabinets and marble or granite countertops. I have stainless steel appliances too. What color marble should i get? I also have an island counter in the middle of the kitchen. My mom wants stone instead of tile on the wall behind the oven and stuff. What looks nice?

  1. Granite may be a better choice as counter top material because it is dense and less porous. This means that is will not stain as easy as marble. If you choose to go with marble you get it sealed to prevent it from staining. As far as colors, a beige, light brown, or gold may look good. I personally preference is gold but they will all look good. As far as stone as a back splash i love slate, it looks good in many different styles.
  2. Marbles are beautiful options for kitchen counters and give a classic look, but you need to have an expectation on how it will wear. Italians have used marble everywhere for years and it develops a patina over time and can age beautifully. However, if you are highly analytical and cannot tolerate any marks, stains, etc you may want to go with granite or another solid surface. A modern option is engineered glass and resin solid surfaces that give the look of a terrazzo, contains post consumer recycled content, and is stain and scratch resistant. It gives the look of a clean modern surface without the traditional look of granite. Based on your vintage white cabinets, any marble or granite would be great options, you just need to be prepared for how marble will wear over time. The only downside to choosing a stone back splash behind the stove top is you need to be careful to seal the stone periodically due to grease and sauces splashing from the cooking surface.
