What do humans normally do in college?

I'm writing a book where my main character is taking web design courses in college, but despite all of my searching there is not really any clear answer that I can find on Google or Bing. Can anyone shed some light on here? Preferably someone who has been to college before or is currently in college, and not just read a lot of books/seen a lot of movies. Also, the place is set in Cherrapunji, India, so I also need a bit of information about that place. It has a lot of rainfall is all that I currently know of. I need information such as what colleges are there, what are some characteristics about the city, etcetera. Although I don't need to know much about it's religion, because I already have a lot of Hinduism covered(I am a Hindu myself). @Catherin... I did start out writing about what I knew. Since I was in fourth grade, i have been obsessed with writing short stories, fanfiction, etcetera. I am currently 16, so I have had a lot of experience with this.

1. This won't really answer your question, but aren't you supposed to write about what you know? Why don't you try that first and then move on to a story with more complex research requirements. Also, google and bing don't really count as the definitive guide to research. They're definitely helpful tools, but for the web design courses, I suggest looking at some college/university websites and finding the IT/computer sciences department.
