If i am to design a kitchen island, does that fall under furniture design?

We have to do a bit of research for a our furniture design, and i was thinking of helping out women in kitchen as they always find a problem within their working area. If you have any suggestions, please don't hesitate thank you

1. It may, although it's really architectural design, because an island is fixed (built into the floor).
2. I would call it more of a cabinet design. My brother-in-law made one for my sister. He put 3-inch locking casters on it so that she could move it around. It was quite nice and rather handy! To get away from the "cabinet design" word, you could call it "kitchen furniture"! :-)
