If we outlawed screw-in lightbulbs, like California, could that boost jobs in innovators like GE?

GE holds the patents for several new models of light bulb including the two pronger. The Edison screw-in bukd patent is outdated and China owns the market big time because they were allowed to. It was a USA innovation NOW it has killed jobs in the US. If we banned or outlawed the screw in bulbs, then we could manufacture those new canisters, fixtures, and bulbs right here in the USA. And CREATE jobs!!!!

  1. You can artificially create a demand for anything if you outlaw something cheaper. Outlaw all gasoline powered engines and suddenly lots of jobs building electric engines
  2. LOL sure buy one of those GE low consumption light bulbs and read on the bottom: "MADE IN CHINA" They killed US workplaces to open CHINA workplaces
  3. OK
  4. ...and GE owns the White House......so you're finally learning something about the real world.... ....there's hope for you yet...
  5. The government has no place dictating what kind of light bulbs you use; they should just stick to focusing on the economy.
  6. I really don't see the logic behind your proposal. You see, what we'll have to do is toss out all of our screw-in lamps. These things are compatable with flourescent screw-in lightbulbs, and many are antiques... And do you know who will be creating new lamps for those little plug-ins? China. Your logic is flawed.
  7. Typical liberal, always trying to destroy markets and create monopolies.
  8. AlI light bulbs screw in, princess. You want us to go back to candles?
  9. Better yet, let's ban and outlaw $#!++Y corporations like GE who literally write these bad laws, then ship their manufacturing plants overseas. And while we're at it, we can vote out all our trusted 'representatives' who voted in favor of these bad laws. What makes you think they would build any manufacturing plants here?!
  10. Another problem with your proposal is the EPA won't allow the bulbs to be made here in the USA because of the toxic chemicals they use to produce them. The cancer rates in China have skyrocketed all around the factories that make light bulbs because of all the mercury in the air, soil, and water. China just doesn't care because they have enough people to keep working without feeling it. It's the same reasoning that signing the Kyoto accords is dumb-- China and India are both exempted from it and they're our biggest corporate competitors.
  11. Yes. We should change the law to benefit GE because Obama appointed the CEO. We should do that for all Liberal Politicians so they can become wealthier. Oh, wait, they already are doing that. http://www.duffminster.com/times/node/80
  12. GE has already screwed the American worker by closing down our factories here and opening them up in China, and BTW Ge just send billions more to create more jobs in China. GE as you may notice does not subscribe to American labor. We are fighting the hazardous bulbs that we are being forced to purchase after 2012. Fortunately we have many in Congress on our side. In the meantime, I have stocked on light bulbs fo life. We don't want those types of bulbs. Seniors especially, because they cause eye strain. I am sure you can think of something far better to create jobs. Light bulbs and fixtures of this sort are not wanted. MR
  13. And while we are at it, lets ban guns to prevent murder, ban forks to cure obesity, ban speaking to prevent people from being offended, and ban money to prevent people from being rich or poor.
  14. First, you would have to replace almost every light fixture in American homes. Guess what. They would be manufactured in China and Mexico as well as Vietnam. More American dollars being force off shore by Government. Second, I love LED bulbs . they are cheap to operate. they can usually be used with a dimmer switch, they come ON when you turn them on, and don't need two minutes to brighten up. they also work at low temperatures. Unfortunately, LED bulbs aren't being manufactured to satisfy most needs - yet. So why does Government push those foolish fluorescent bulbs? Why ban lights that can't be used outdoors when it is cold? Government politicians are idiotic every time they think they are engineers, scientists or businessmen.
  15. Well that is not 100% true, what is being outlawed is "incandescent" bulbs. I think you might have it mixed up. This coming year the 100 watt is being phased out except for specialty type bulbs. Then years following will be 75 watt, etc. The USA has so many "Screw-in" type lamps, that it would be impracticable to outlaw only screw in bulbs because you have standard size and mini-screw in types. The LED and CPL most of them are still the standard screw size. Typical general lighting service use an Edison screw in candelabra, intermediate, or standard or mogul sizes, or double contact bayonet base. The "prong" method might be coming, slowly, but that would cost the consumers too many $$$$ for a sudden change. In the United States, federal law has scheduled the most common incandescent light bulbs to be phased out by 2014, to be replaced with more energy-efficient light bulbs. Traditional incandescent light bulbs were phased out in Australia in November 2009.. Bottom line, the screw in bulb being CFL or LED's are here. There has been much resistance to these phasing out of incandescent lamps, owing to the low cost of incandescent bulbs.
  16. The problem is that the trade agreement that we made with China and other countries are managed trade not free trade. The China trade agreement for example lets China charge a 25% import tax while we only charge a 2.5% import tax on Chinese products. Plus they are manipulating their currency to keep it 50% lower than it should be which is an advantage to their products. These agreements are negotiated because lobbyist are paid by business to make money for a few people to the harm of the many. That is why there are no jobs here because of the profits for the few.
  17. Last count I had GE had moved every thing they had here overseas, except the light bulb factory and they showed it on TV and no one worked there it was fully automated, they turned the light on to show it and said automatic machines dont need lights to work.
  18. Lets start with the facts, first. California did not ban "screw in" light bulbs. It banned 100 watt incandescent light bulbs, just a few months earlier than the federal government did. On your proposal, if you are serious (which I doubt), if two pronged bulbs were mandated, then nothing would prevent such bulbs and equipment being manufactured anywhere.
  19. Most light bulbs screw in, whether the bulbs are fluorescent or incandescent. Nobody can be this stupid!
