Do you have to give credit for pictures you use pictures in a blog?
If I were to use pictures I found online, would I have to cite the website/author of each picture? Like if I wanted to use interior design pictures of kitchens, bedrooms, etc... What is the rule in general? Thank you for any answers.

- I'm pretty sure that if it's on Google Images, you can use it. However, I have seen a case where someone put a picture on Wikipedia (related to the article) and some days later the picture was removed, then put back up, then removed, so there might be some pictures that have copyright that cannot be seen. So, uh... stay away from Wikipedia?
- There is no general rule, it is up to the owners of the copyright of the photos . These are usually displayed on the site. If there are no indications on how to reuse their photos it probably means they don't want them reused. http://aviewfinderdarkly.com.au
- If its an art piece or something the person made his or herself, then yes. If its one of those pictures that the person who took it WANTS it to be popular (for example, probably no one cares about getting credit for a scientific picture of the ecosystem or something) then you should probably do it. Some of my friends have took a picture or made art, only to see it on another blog on tumblr without their credit. Either way, I think it'll be safe just to put it.
- The general rule is that you have to gain permission from the copyright owner or more correctly the individual who owns the intellectual property. There are no ifs or buts... They will tell you whether you can use their images or not.
- You have to get permission to use the photos first. The agreement you reach with the owner of the images will determine what if any credit you have to give and how it should be displayed.
- it depends, if its just found on yahoo photos where you dont know who took it then you cant but if you get it from flickr or someplace where you know who took the picture or it says who did then you should credit them, if you dont it is copyrighting. also even for images you post you find without an author it wont hurt to put unkown author or say images not taken by me
- The general rule is "Don't use pictures you didn't take without permission." So many people seem to think you can use anything you find online if you credit the person who took it, but that's not how it works. For every picture you want to use, you need to get written permission to do it. If you don't have permission, it's copyright infringement and you could be sued by the photographer(s). You can buy licenses to use stock photos on sites like Dreamstime and iStockPhoto. Some photographers release their work on Flickr under Creative Commons. You can try an advanced search for CC photos on Flickr. Lots of people only ask for credit if you use their CC content.
- Perhaps. If it's public domain, then no you do not have to. There are certain Creative Commons licenses that require you to credit the original source as a condition of it's use. However if the work is full copyright - all rights reserved - then you cant use it. Straight up, period, end of story. That said, it's always polite to point back to the original work. It costs you nothing and earns you great amounts of karma!
- With Morguefile.com, each photographer states their requirements. Most of them just want you to email them and tell them what you're doing with their pictures. They have some great ones too.
- I would always ask permission first, and give credit
