Do those "crashed" rooms on HGTV really get renovated for FREE?

I totally envy those people whose toilets, yards and kitchens get renovated in the HGTV Crashers show. Is the station actually giving away $20K per episode (not including manpower) to a lucky "crashee" or is it propaganda?

1. Yes, but what they fell to tell everyone is that you must pay fed. taxes, gift taxes, state taxes..... HELLO IRS they want 1/2 of the $$$$
