Will this LG Plasma TV be able to play HD files via the USB port?

1. Yes it will, it will also do music and photos. Can also view 3D content via usb and external hard drive
2. You would be better off buying a sub $100 Meda Server. These things have a HDMI output and USB input. The better ones know how to deal with MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, WMV-HD, RM, etc. and they have frequent updates to the software. Look into the Asus O!Play or the Western Digital TV HD box. These are both less than $100 but have a great reputation. They work from a flash drive or a USB hard drive. With this - you can use any HDTV with a HDMI input.
3. it is NOT MKV 3D file support, you have to convert MKV to AVI (HD) to watch 3D videos. And it is NOT support Side by Side Photos, (MPO photos format), please wait onather 2 month, there are other 3DTV (SMARTTV) very cheap and friendly!!! Cheers PS: sorry for my bad English
