what kind of tile to put in very small bathroom?
We are remodeling the bathroom is 3 1/2 feet by 7 feet. The toilet faces the sink. The sink. The sink has a cabinet that reaches the width of the bathroom. Tehre is no medicine cabinet, but there is a decorative mirror with wood trim. . I want to use a brownish colored ceramic tile for the floor and the same for the wall, but didn't know if the wall tile would make the bathroom look smaller. Any ideas on how to do the tile (should I not do the wall?) without making the bathroom look smaller.

- Go light - you can still get some textures and patterns, but lighter, natural colors and a neutral color on the wall will help open the bathroom. I would avoid tiling the wall though - generally that will only make the bathroom feel smaller. Another way: Get new lighting fixtures. You'll be amazed at how much it will change the room if you just make those quick fixes.
- I had the same small bathroom as you walked in the house. I did the floor in a wood like linoleum, pretty dark. For the walls I did the one you looked at when you walked in in a beige and blue pussy willow wall paper(pretty light. The other three were painted in a semi gloss cream color, The ceiling was in a semi gloss white. All of the wood work and the medicine cabinet and the vanity were in a dark wood. I even had the sink set in a wood top. All the stains matched and were dark. The reason the wallpaper had blue in it was that the toilet and sink were also blue. Got a lot of compliments on the decor in the room. Tile in small spaces can be a pain to fit and cost a little more. If that small bathroom had dark walls it would have made it into a closet I think.
- I like smaller tiles in small rooms although some prefer the opposite. Plain rather than busy, to draw the eyes up. Lighter colors rather than darker. Running tiles at a diagonal can also make the room seem bigger. I don't care for tiled walls myself, but if you do tile it consider using a lighter color than the floor tile. Some other tips, if you're interested: Pedestal or wall-mounted sinks can free up more room. You'll lose the vanity, but you probably don't need one in a half-bath. There are smaller-footprint and wall-mounted toilets available also. Mirrors with plenty of light are great for creating the illusion of more space. A pocket door is another way to save some space.
