architecture and engineering?

How easy is it for a structural engineer to be an architect. I have a dilemma because I don't know which path I should chose. As an Engineer I want to have a major in Structural Engineering, with a minor in mechanical engineering [automobile], and aerospace engineering. But lately I have been attracted to the architecture path. The only reason I am considering architecture is because architecture deals with design of a particular buildings. I want to design things, not letting somebody else give me their design and make me work my butt off for their creation. On the other hand, i don't want to build buildings for the rest of my life. I could be interested in bridges or dams. I also want to build cars and airplanes. I am stuck and need answers. These are the questions I need answered.. How easy is it for a structural engineer to be an architect? Can architects design other things like bridges? Can architects also have degrees in other engineering fields (Mechanical [automobile] or Aerospace)? In terms of job security, which position is safer? How much creative control do engineers have on their projects (How it looks)? Do all engineering firms have architects or do they hire them as consultants? Please answer these and I will give 10 points.

  1. 1. You can get degrees in as many and as varied different majors as you want. I know a structural who owns his own structural firm. He also has a degree in architecture. 2, Typically only engineers and technicians are involved in bridge design. 3. Generally an architect leads the design of a building and delegates structural/civil, mechanical, and electrical to engineers. 4. Some firms are architectural only. Some firms are engineering only. Some firms include both architects and engineers.
