How do you think I should design my house?

My mom's uncle recently just passed away this past November, and he left her first cousin all 9 of his property and houses, she's letting me get one. The one she's giving me is a large 2 bedroom 1 bath house, it has a huge front yard and also a huge backyard, and have no drive way. She's told me it's up to me to design it however I want to design it. So this is what I had in mind. Front yard - Bermuda Grass, brick walkway with lights (http://brickpaversnewjersey.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/brick_paver_walkway_with_lighting-300x225.jpg) connecting from the drive way to the steps House exterior - paint the house a kind off white Front Porch - it's a screen porch but I'm planning to replace it with glass Living Room Design - White ceramic tiles, white walls and ceiling, 9 inner ceiling lights (6 for each corner, 3 extras ones to fill in gaps), 1 ceiling fan in the middle with white blades Furniture - black leather sectional, black leather recliner, glass top metal coffee table with 2 matching glass top metal end tables, large black rug to in center of room both bedrooms - white walls and light grey carpet Bathroom - haven't thought about it Kitchen - black wood cabinets with white marble top, I using the same ceramic tiles throughout the house except the bedrooms, large fluorescent ceiling light Back yard - I'm planning to removed the back step, and build a deck, I'm still kind of iffy if want to build a swimming pool I'm 26, no kids, 2 cars, own small business, what do you think will make the perfect home I'm planning to live in it myself

  1. I think it all depends on whether you intend to live in it yourself or or you are intending to do it up to sell. Also what is your budget as that will have an impact on your ideas? If it is to live in yourself then go for what YOU want If it is to just do up then I would ask some real estate agents come round and get their ideas on what you should do in order to sell it asap - don't waste money on doing things that you won't get a return on. Also keep it neutral if selling Hope this helps
  2. Sounds as if the home is already designed and all you want is to put your touches on it. For design you need a mechanical engineer and architect, this doesn't sound like that type of project. I live in a place where pools add value to the home, if you are from a state that people use pools a lot then I'd invest in a pool, if you won't get a return on your pool I wouldn't do that for sure. Depends on your city and state, look up demographics for the area as well.
  3. I love your ultra modern design, you definitely don't want a large outdated fluorescent light in the kitchen, opt for can lights (4") and hanging light pendants over the island or counter peninsula. http://modecoflats.com/gallery/images/kitchen-1.jpg
