How do I heat an outdoor porch?
My outdoor dogs are getting old (one is 16 and blind) and I want them out of the weather. I tried keeping them in the kitchen last winter but I can't deal with all the dog hair, and the older one freaks out when we try to brush him or trim his fur. I'm thinking of closing in my back porch for them but I'm not sure what the best way is to heat it for them. I have a heater for the dog house and a heated water bowl but I'm not sure that's enough. There are grounded outlets on the porch. Any ideas?

- They have lams that kind of work as heaters.
- You could get some small space heaters and if you need to, put them on a table or something to make sure the dogs wont poke them (like my dog does). those things might be small, but they work wonders!
- I like what you're already doing with "spot" heating, such as the doghouse. Perhaps you could figure out a way to heat a dog bed outside the doghouse, too. Give them a warm spot that's still in the fresh air. Give them some unheated rest areas, too. Watch what they use; you'll be able to figure out what they want.
- May God bless you for being a caring pet lover. I bought a ceramic heater that turns on and off, keeping the temperature(at a warn temp) Please make sure the bedding is fluffly, I went to the Salvation Army and bought 2 king sized comforters for 9.00 Hard floors will make your babies have pain in the joints. I keep my heater at 60* Not expensive at all!
- There is a huge selection of patio heaters on the website below.
- What ever you do, be wise and be careful. Make sure which ever method you use is SAFE! Situate the heater so that the dogs can't knock them over, push bedding or other flammable things close to them or that they don't get too hot and start a fire. There are so many people that loose their homes trying to keep a pet warm.
