How can i make creative designs on my fingernails?

I done it before but it comes out very sloppy looking. And i don't want to pay to go to the nail salon every two weeks. I like how a lot of designs i see that are do it yourself have striped, plaid or animal print designs. I dnt want to get fake nails. Any personal techniques help. Thanks

1. buy a nail pen. its a pen with nail polish in it. it works really well. you can buy it at somewhere like cvs or a pharmacy or something like that.

3. they have these cool nail polish pens,( http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sally-Hansen-Nail-Art-Pen-Hot-Pink/12442034) found at wall mart that are specifically for drawing on designs. you can also buy stickers or little prints. sometimes, if im feeling bored and creative, i use my regular old watercolours on my nails. once the watercolour dries, i paint a clear coat over, and it's permanent! IT REALLY WORKS! as long as the watercolour is dry, it doesnt smudge or anything. (i only ever do it on my toes, easier)
