instead of tearing out the indoor, outdoor carpet. It was installed in the kitchen over 20 yrs ago. Back then it was called kitchen carpet. It was laid down over concrete. There,s no pad under it,just has a rubber backing which is part of the carpet. The thickness eighth inch thick. There,s no bubbles, real solid small area 150sq ft

- yes give the carpet a good clean and just lay the laminate as you would as the carpet is not thick it will be fine the thicker the carpet the sponger the laminate will be
- Laminate are attached with adhesive of some sort. Carpeting has bubbles or air space, and you want your laminate to stick for good, or they won't stay for very long. I wouldn't install them over carpeting.
- You want a botched job then go ahead and lay the flooring on top of the old carpet. But if you do it the right way you will strip the carpet down to the bare cement first.A little extra work will improve the look for a long time.
- If you are talking floating floor click in place laminate then yes...If you clean the carpet thoroughly and allow it to fully dry. You want a bit of a cushion under the laminate it makes the hollow sound better to bear. Make sure the floor is absolutely flat and level before installation. After 20 years in a kitchen though....I would hesitate to put new flooring on top. If it's not glued down pull it up ...scrub the floor lay down a vaporbarier - a poly underlayment between the carpet or bare floor and the laminate. This will keep moisture from wicking through to the laminate as it does not breath.
- You could id the low napped carpet didn t have a rubber pad on it and it was glued down. But in your case,NO you shouldnt. The rubber pad , although thin is enough of a cushion that it will break down the locking system of the laminate. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. I ve attended several installation seminars as well as installer several 100,000 s/f. GL
- NO NO NO NO! Pull it up and do it right! If it's on concrete you need to put down a moisture barrier. If water were to ever get under the wood all you would end up with is a bad case of mold! It's a small room, take the time!
- yes should be we laid our laminate flooor onto of our old flooring and its been fine it might act as a bit of insulation and a good base:)
- Remove the carpet. It will make the floor feel a lot more solid when walked on.
- Nononononononononono... You must remove the carpet first. Your laminate is not made to go over carpet, there will be too much 'give' from the surface below it. Don't do this, it won't work.
