Coffee house/cafe interior?
My teacher is making us do a poetry-reading at school, and she wants us to design the room like an old coffee house. Like one of those places that the people can read poetry and jazz and they snap instead of clap at the end. Well, anyways, what are some ideas to transform a simple classroom into a coffeehouse? Just simple things, though, nothing like painting the walls or contructing something.

- Some little round tables and chairs, coffee, tea, doughnuts, artificial ficus tree here and there, no smoking sign, cafe curtains. Good luck. Also, there could be the little board that has food and drink items written in chalk on it.
- First, there needs to be some sort of stage with a spotlight (just section off an area of the floor.). And there DEFINITELY needs to be a bongo drum if you want that Beatnik feel. Then you need, as the previous poster said, tall cafe tables with tall chairs, and a lamp or candle for each table. Some pillows on the floor near the stage area. Put heavy drapes on the classroom door, and cafe curtains at the windows (those curtains that cover only the lower half of the window). Coffee, snacks. The atmosphere is better when there isn't any sunlight in the room (as most of the live performances happened in the evening). To get the right atmosphere, I would also turn out the classroom lights and plug nightlights into all the electrical outlets. Then put one or two standing lights (the tall ones -- torchieres), and use low wattage bulbs in them. Sounds like a fun project!
- Usually those places are dark painting and have a spot light pointing to the stage a mic and a stool. Sounds like your teacher needs to teach the actual class instead of trying to get your guys to do her work for her. Is she going to make you guys dress hippy-yuppie for the class as well. Poetry is what your supposed to be doing.
- maby try puttin in some fancy chairs
