New forms and innovations in college theatre?

We at our college need to add some life and modernity to our theater scene. I'm looking for suggestions on how college theater or theater in general can be made more exciting and taken beyond Shakespeare, Arthur Miller, Harold Pinter, Neil Simon and those annoying mimes. Any suggestions like ideas, links, videos, things you/your college may have put up and names of playwrights and plays will be appreciated. I'll be checking in to read all ur comments. Thanks you guys! :)

  1. Have you ever attended the American College Theatre Festival in Washington DC? A great way to see new techniques, approaches, speak with directors, actors and everyone in between. Granted, I'm not sure where you are but airfare, hotel and food money might be issues for institutional reinbursement. I think a few days spent here will be more useful than any link, but that's HO. http://www.kennedy-center.org/education/actf/
  2. Original plays is a good way. Hold a play writing contest for which the winner gets his or her play produced at your college and a trip there to attend rehearsals and performances, and maybe do a workshop on play writing and a public talk about their play prior to the performances. Another way is to have a visiting professional actor to star in one of your plays and teach a class and give a public talk.
