How many bathrooms should there be in a house share where there are 7 people living?

I live in a house share with 6 other people in the uk and i want to know if my landlord is breaking the law, by having 7 people live in a house with 2 bathrooms. There are no other toliets in the property and the toilets have a bath in one of them and a shower in the other.

  1. Check your local codes...each place will differ in the law. Call local municipal office or rental board if you have one there.
  2. I don't think there are any laws about needing more than one bathroom per household. I grew up in a house with 7 people and one bathroom and we all managed to do what we had to do in the bathroom.
  3. I suspect that it doesn't meet the requirements for "houses in Multiple occupation"- ( these 7 people are not a single family? ) . I think there should be a loo on it's own too. You would need to check with your own local council. http://www.rushmoor.gov.uk/media/adobepdf/t/k/Amenities.pdf
  4. it does not break the law ...lots of houses have 4 people and one bathroom ...so 7 and 2 are not a problem
  5. I watched 'homes under the hammer' tv programme this morning, a builder bought a large house and wanted it for rental accommodation for students. He converted it into six bedrooms for multiple occupancy, and he had to have a minimum of 2 bathrooms, which is what he put in. you can probably watch it on on bbc i player tomorrow. it was shown today friday 10th sept.
