Is my landlord allowed to take pictures of my belongings?
Our landlord is selling the house that we live in and today a Realtor, a appraiser and a woman whom we don't know where she was from came in together and took pictures of our kitchen, computer, washer and dryer and 1 of the bedrooms. Are they allowed to take pictures without our permission? Also I found that pictures of the outside of the house online and some of these pictures are of our personal vehicle. Our leease does not say anything about this They did not take pictures of every room they just seemed to take pictures of our stuff. Like the computer and the washer and dryer that we own
Public Comments
- Yes. If you read your lease it states the landlord can sell and house must be available for inspection
- Why do you care? Are yo uin the witness protection plan? They have to post pictures to sell the property. Would you prefer that they have you remove everything from the house?
- At the very least they should have asked your permission as they pictures may have contained pictures of family or personal information such as license plate numbers that you would not want posted to the internet. Taking pictures of your property is legal but they may not display personal information or images of you or your family without permission.
- Whoa! If...there are no stipulations or comments of this in your initial contract (rental agreement), then they are out of line! The building belongs to them, but your possessions are yours, private and of no right for others to take pictures and then use them -- without your permission. Check what you signed when you agreed to rent the place. Then, call the landlord or company and express your frustration. In today's world of suing within seconds...I am guessing the landlord will take down the photos he publicly displayed. If not, take the next step...legally.
