Do you remember when California was the model for America and a step ahead of other states?
California was always a step ahead of the nation. The best in education, the highest wages, the best innovation, the richest state, and really great wine! (Blackstone Pinot Noir, 2008....yummy!) Other states always lagged behind California. The Northeast usually followed, always NY first with NJ and Mass. not far behind. Now they are in a fiscal emergency. Now they are 49th in education. Their taxes are astronomical. Their state union demands are underfunded by billions. How did this happen? Will other states follow? The state of California has one of the worlds largest economy's. Like it or not, we are all going to be responsible for what happens in that state. We will all feel the consequences. What about the states that lag behind? Will they suffer the same fate? How are we going to get out of this? This means one of two things. The federal government is not going to cut spending anytime soon. What's the only other option? It's not just the federal government we should be worried about. We need to look at the individual states because we are going to be picking up the tab for them too. What a mess this country is in! Does this concern you? http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN2822176520100728 July 28 (Reuters) - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency over the state's finances on Wednesday, raising pressure on lawmakers to negotiate a state budget that is more than a month overdue and will need to close a $19 billion shortfall. Beulah, Point taken!

- Yes, and liberal policies have now flushed California right down the toilet. How can people look at Cali, Greece, etc., and still vote liberal? It boggles my mind.
- Jerry Brown was the downfall of California
- And THAT is exactly why illegals should be send back to their home country. California is overrun with illegals that have sapped its coffers dry.
- When the gold ran out, it was the beginning of the end.
- I do...I do !!! Guess they voted the wrong way the last twenty years or so.
- Mmmmm ... Nope.
- it's ugly here in CA
- Sweeping the liberals out of the way and replacing them with true fiscal conservatives would be a good start.
- It was...then the liberals over ran the place and look at what happened. It's what the rest of the nation gets to look forward to if the 0bama reign of terror continues.
- Yes, it was a paradise when Reagan was governor. Unfortunately, Jerry Brown became governor and brought a bunch of left wing radicals with him who took over the legislature. It has been spiraling down ever since
- I remember when everyone wanted to go to San Fran and hang out on the street corners of Haight/Ashbury smoking weed dropping acid and sh**ing in the streets. Cultural revolution my a$$!
- Californis is a CLASSIC EXAMPLE of what happens to the world's 6th largest economy, after 10 years of liberalism. Today we have: * 14% unemployment * Largest state government of ANY state in the union (over 350,000 state employees) * Over 40,000 state employees making six figures a year. * Retired union workers making 125% of their original salaries * A governor who claims to be a republican, but isnt * Largest tax increase in the history of the country. * 8.75% state sales tax (in addition to local taxes) * Most ridiculous emissions laws in the country * Gas that leads the nation in price (currently over $3.15 for regular unleaded) * And last but not least, home to an estimate 10 million illegal aliens! (only good thing to happen in California in YEARS is that Feb 6th is now Ronald Reagan day)
- You mean before they elected a Republican as Governor? Seems like CA was doing great before then. Just like our country was doing great when Clinton was president .
- Yes, they used to have democrat governors...
- Not really. I do remember that every time some wacky clothing style appeared in California, the same garbage showed up in other areas shortly thereafter. I also remember that every time California did something stupid in the government arena, people would move to Arizona and New Mexico by the thousands, and then they'd want to do the very thing in the place they ended up that they had left California because of. Now California has bankrupted itself with its own stupidity, and it's looking to the federal government for a bailout. I say let them drop into the ocean.
- Yes. Now sadly, cali looks like cuba...and has the economy of greece.
- I remember when "they" claimed that, now "they" are not claiming that anymore. "They" being Californians.
- Prop. 13 was the beginning of the downfall of California.
- Its true the state universities were really very good and they were doing the most advanced programs in the high schools. You can guess what happened. The influx of iillegal aliens (not Mexican Americans, not Hispanics--iillegals) overwhelmed the economy and the social services. The public high schools became gang sites, teachers fled to the small towns, the students (who could afford it) went to private schools and the hospitals becames charity wards busy treating illegals and with no time and resources for research and development. And all during this time, liberals (who were rich, hidden away in gated communities, with privates schoolls and clinics) continued to tell everyone else to suck up and embrace their new friends. You cannot walk on a street at night, you can't let your kids out of your house, you cannot let them near a public school. there is no high school social life, football games, dances, none of that. The streets are the site of gang wars with automatic weapons. This is the America that Obama is giving you, get ready and don't forget to vote Democratic in the next election.
- They also came and ruined denver
- It still is California is going to be a step ahead once again when they legalize marijuana. California is in the top 3 nicest states in the USA, and it is one of the few states that still believes in freedom and Liberty!
- This is a direct result of what happens when the GOP, through the initiative process, is able to handcuff a state government, and prevent it from raising needed revenues. In this way, government revenue streams can be depleted, and the GOP can do a "back-door" removal of any programs that actually benefit working citizens, by claiming that the (cut-to-the-bone) revenues can no longer support said programs.
