How can you make a design for a decorative plate at home?

I have a (v.simple) image on my computer, but I want to get this onto a decorative ceramic plate. I have access to a kiln as someone said I'd need to re-glaze it and re-fire the plate - but I know nothing more than that. Can you shed any more light on what I might need to do? Thanks a lot!!.
