kitchen cabinet question?

I'm rehabbing a house as my first home. I found a bunch of nice spice maple cabinets that were used and I bought them and am going to install them in my kitchen (has been completely ripped out and is being rebuilt). I have enough to make a U pattern kitchen with the cabinets but I was thinking I might wanna go a little more modern then that and instead of a 90 degree angle for one of the sides of the U, I'd do like a 135 degree angle. |_ / sort of design. Few questions here. Has anybody done this and had success with it? It's a rectangle size room so the remaining 90 degree angle would be in a corner. Would I just need to "edit" a cabinet to make this possible? Any other possible concerns? Thanks!

  1. What you describe can be done, in theory, but be careful not to create a lot of wasted space due to the 135 degree angle. I assume you know that you can't simply modify one cabinet to that angle and expect it to mate properly. You would have to alter the units on both sides by a factor of 67 1/2 degrees for them to mate equally front to back. It's difficult to fully explain but I just want to alert you that your idea may take some careful study before you grab your saw. Good luck!
