Can the school principal shut down the bathrooms and lock them in a public school?

At my school, there are kids that smoke in the bathrooms. The principal made an annoucment that if it keeps happening he'll shut them down, but I don't think he can legally do that. What if someone got a bladder infection or something, thats illegal right?

  1. Noooooo, they can't do that, because some kids may have a bladder problem. I would report that to the board if the principal did do it.
  2. I don't know where you are from, but in UK that would not be allowed to happen. I'm sure it would be against the law to close the bathrooms and lock them up so pupils could not use them while they are on school premises..
  3. Are you in Elementary school or something?
  4. not really he can do it because mrs earnest always locks the bathroom in her class til last 5 min of class from someone throwing something at me and keeps them locked til the throwing stops
  5. No, he can't legally lock them, at least not all of them. There has to be a place where students can use the bathroom if they need to, otherwise it could cause issues. He can't punish everybody for what a few students are doing. If he wants it to stop, have somebody check the bathrooms from time to time to catch the students smoking.
