what are 3 unique items that would be needed to be brought on a trip to a temperate deciduous forest?

- For me, I'd have to say a field guide, a plant press, and a magnifying loupe/glass (to use for identifying and pressing plant specimens). Others might bring binoculars, map, compass, GPS, satellite phone, sunscreen (if the leaves aren't fully out), snowshoes or cross-country skis (you didn't say what time of year!), camping gear (you didn't say how long the trip was!), friends, your dog, food, water, etc.
