What's a creative tattoo design about inner strength and survival?

I'm turning 18 soon, and going off to college next fall. I've had a really, really tough childhood thus far and I finally feel as though I have my chance to make things right now that I'm finally leaving. I want a tattoo that symbolizes inner strength, survival, and wisdom. I like the idea of a quote or a graphic. I'm open to any ideas! Thanks!

1. Why not think up something personal that has meaning for you? Ideas from strangers might be nice, but none of them will truly mean a thing to you.
2. I got a feather on my side for the exact same reasons. google what does a feather tattoo mean to see exactly what its for. or a sparrow?
3. What are you interests? Think of one and find a symbol from that...For instance, I love ancient egypt and would use the hieroglyphic for strength. If you like animals--eagles, sparrows, et cedera could be used. Music--almost anything since music is freedom :))) Find something of importance for YOU .... YOU are the one wearing the tat for the rest of your life.

5. You could choose based on your ethnic background. Like if your native american you could get a Bear for strength, and an Owl for wisdom. If your chinese you could get a Lion for strength and a Fox for wisdom ect... Every culture has different animals for different meanings, so doing this you could express your ancestry along with your virtues.
