In the 1920's film "Metropolis", How is the issue of power treated in the film's design and lighting?

- "Metropolis" employs the use of high contrasts to emphasize the struggle between the upper and lower class. Its imagery is heavenly laden with symbolism and darkness/light to mirror the dichotomy of the combating social classes. Thus, power is portrayed as a heavily divided structure. One might also consider that, though the sort of "underworld" is portrayed in darkness, there is an eventual uprising and "light" (which eventually metamorphisizes into "good" rather than a hierarchically superior position) takes control.
