How do I lay viynl tiles in bathroom over horrible mosiac tiles fitted by Dolphin Bathrooms.?
I have horrible Mosiac tiles fitted and supplied by Dolphin Bathrooms they were forced sold to me by a picture which gave no reference to what they actually are like. I want to know if I can lay vinyl tiles over these rather than taking up old floor. Should I lay plywood underlay or screed the floor or any other ideas.

- id lay some plywood then tile over that.
- You have to use an underlayment of some kind. Use plywood if it doesn't raise the floor up too high. If it does, you'll have to strip the tile.
- There are 2 types of cement over lay you can choose from. One is a self leveling compound that you can pour over the whole floor and let dry for 24 hrs minimum. The second is a floated type , cement based material that you can float over the mosaics to make them smooth enough to put vinyl tiles over so the grout lines won t telescope and show through. Both ways you need solid mosaics and thoroughly clean and treated with a special latex primer. Very difficult if not impossible to put a plywood over a ceramic properly. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- If the floor itself is sound enough you can lay vinyl tile on top,if its not level you can screed the floor with self-leveling compound. When you come to lay the vinyl tile make sure the you heat them first to make the tiles flexible,if you don`t they will split or break when flaten to lay them....good luck
