Any feedback on my cover letter?
This is an e-mail that I'm attempting to send to a graphic design firm. Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to express my interest in applying as a Graphic Designer for your company. I have overall experience in web and logo design. I possess five years of working with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Microsoft FrontPage. In addition, I am a creative thinker who pays a lot of attention to detail and I am able to combine ideas and concepts into branding, print, and web designs. I am enclosing my resume and my portfolio to this e-mail. I appreciate your time and effort in in reviewing my qualifications. Please feel free to call me at 678-699-6742 so that we can discuss this opportunity further. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, (Name) I'd like for you to know what you think before I send it in. I didn't see any postings but I just did a Google search for graphic design firms around my area and decided that I could apply.

- That format is pretty generic, and will be seen as such and round filed. Now for the good news, you are on the right track. It always looks better if you know the hiring manager's name, or if not at least the hiring department's title. Expressing an interest is fine, but always better to say you are applying to a current posting that they have open. State where you saw the posting. In the overall experience paragraph, try to list one recent example or project that demonstrates your experience. Although you aren't going to recite your entire resume in the cover letter, the cover letter IS supposed to be the sizzling appetizer that gets them to take the time to read YOUR resume. In my industry, we get 30-50 apps per open spot. We can only hire one. Therefore, we have a lot more experience tossing resumes than reading them. Sad but true in this economy. With the minor changes, I think you will stand out from the other cover letters. Hope this works for you!!
