Attaching a reference letter to a resume and cover letter - too much?
I'm moving to another province in 2 months and am going to do cold calls to companies and send out resumes regardless of whether they have wanted ads or not. Would I have an advantage on my competition if I attached my reference/recommendation letters to my resume and cover letter? Or would that be overkill? I'm applying for a full time Administrative Assistant position with Interior Design Firms, Publishing Firms, Advertising & Publishing Firms - creative type workplaces. Thanks! Carrie :)

- It's pointless. Who's going to put any trust in an attached reference supplied by a complete stranger? For all they know, you wrote it yourself.
- You should definitely include a cover letter, but not the references or recommendation letters. Include that they are available upon request. But you can consider including a quote or two from the references in your cover letter when talking about your skills or qualifications or other positive attributes.
