Some inventions/innovations that are more boy-oriented?
So I'm doing a National History Day project next year, and the theme is the Innovation in History, so I need to write a paper about how an innovation or invention impacted the world. I'm a girl and last year I did a feminist topic and two of my girl friends did a very boy-oriented topic, Jim Bowie and the Alamo. I only won the district and they got much farther than I did, getting an honorable mention at the nationals. Their project sucked. I think the reason they did so well is because their topic was so atypical, for two girls to do such a boy-oriented topic. This year I would like to do something atypical, but all the boy-oriented inventions are so boring...guns? War? Cars? They make me go to sleep. Can anyone think of any inventions or innovations that are more boy-oriented but that I might think are interesting? Also, if it's more modern that would rock, since I need to have lots of primary sources on it, but it doesn't strictly need to be more modern.

- Inflatable women.
- TV remotes Video game systems Golf Football Planes (have you ever seen a chick pilot? because I haven't)
- electricity computers planes electricity television....
- Reasearch about Nicoli Tesla, Alexander Bell, and the Wright brothers.
- the penis pump, cheese in a can, reclining chairs
- What about the introduction of the assembly line in auto making, that process alone revolutionized the world, and because of it, many other manufacturers use that process to this day.
- Go green, attack non-renewable sources of energy: Cite contributions and studies made by Nicoli Tesla, water car power fuel by a Filipino inventor (forgot name, available on net though), to the renewable battery power of Nokia (said to be introduced in market next year). Makes me excited just thinking of these possibilities. Goodluck
- OK so cars is less boring than you think, they have some pretty awesome concept cars coming out, and maybe think of the future, you think might be a guy thing? They have these awesome game systems coming out, and phones that can fold up like paper. I'll give you some links. http://www.techshout.com/images/nokia-morph-nano.jpg http://handcellphone.com/wp-content/themes/green-marinee/phonepic/BenQSiemens-Concept-Phone-Snake-3.jpg http://storecrowd.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/rca-concept1.jpg http://petitinvention.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/future_search4-1_petitinvention.jpg I could keep going :)
- Direct Impingement System http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Direct_impingement Microprocessor http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microprocessor Space Flight http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_flight Those are my top three choices, in order for specific to vague.
- This may fall under your idea of boring inventions but just an idea. How about the Predator spy plane? Although the initial concept was developed years ago, significant advancements have been made. You may think a spy plane would only be used at war but they are actually helpful in natural disaster situations, having been used recently to monitor flooding in North Dakota. Check out the links I have provided. Otherwise...think kids. Adults seem to be more intrigued when a kid invents something. Check the 'inventors' link posted below for ideas.
- I don't think it's because their project is more boy oriented. I think it's because feminists are annoying. People are willing to pay a little bit of attention to them but not all the attention because they have said what thousands of other rebellious people have said. Why don't you talk about the invention of abortions? And how it serves as a vital tool for population control in countries like China, where 20 years ago everyone was starving to death. My dad grew up in an age where people were eating tree bark because there wasn't enough food to go around and he watched all his neighbors starve to death.
- Maybe something computer-related. Digital technology has a huge effect on the modern world. Us guys just love our computers.
