How to combine Ocean and Lodge themes.?

My husband likes oceans - I like mountains/lodge style. We are going to be decorating our house soon. Living room will have an ocean theme (net with shells, ocean picture, etc.). Kitchen has rooster curtains. I want to create a lodge theme room for "my" space. Is there a good way to make things flow from one style to another so it doesn't seem chopped up? I'd like both of us to be able to have some of our favorite things.

  1. If they are separate rooms that are a bit more divided it doesn't really matter. I have my kitchen done in a very floral design with pale violet walls and the family room connected to it is done in your lodge type theme, with a darker sage wall paint and log mantle with the deer tapestry on the wall and it flows very well. It's more the colors you are going to be using then the theme. If you can get the colors to flow nicely your problem is solved.
  2. There is specific style associated with the Pacific Northwest (US and Canada)... like coastal Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. Get some regional home design magazines. Maybe even a weekend trip to a B&B in the area?. G'luck!
