Does anyone have hardwood floors in their kitchen? Pros/cons?
My husband and I are at odds with whether to put down hardwood floors in the kitchen (the rest of the house is getting them with the exception of the bathrooms). I thought that ceramic or porcelain tile would be better. I have seen pictures of kitchens with wood floors and it looks amazing. I'm just not sure about it since there maybe more spills/traffic in that room. Any thoughts?

- we have them and we love them. easy to clean and easy on your legs and feet. if you spill something on them just wipe up with damp paper towel. i honestly can't think of a con with having hw floors.
- We have hardwood floors in our kitchen -- a 30 year old house with the original wood floors. I didn't think I was going to like it either, but I do prefer it now. Looks nice and it is better for your back/feet if you spend as much time as most folk in a kitchen. It is softer versus ceramic tile. Our wood floors have also held up well as far as marks and dents and such and we have 2 young kids.
- When you drop something on ceramic tile, it goes smash. When you drop something on a properly done hardwood floor, it often survives. Best floor I've ever worked on (for standing) was ground, compacted cork -- second best was hardwood.
- Hardwood floor on top of subflooring will be durable & look great. My School house was built in 1930 and has complete oak flooring tongue and grove & it has lasted great. (also the entire interior walls are natural oak.) My cousin put all rubber floors in her house because they have a couple of big dogs. this is the very best floor i have ever been on. It clean up great, things dont break, etc but it was expensive to install.
