Which solid wood is considered more expensive for kitchen cabinets cherry or maple and which is warmer?

Both woods being solid and in a lighter stain color with a glaze. Which would probably be more expensive to purchase and which would be considered a warmer look in the kitchen? Both of the same design in a more traditional raised panel.

  1. cherry cost more......i love the color of a dark cherry in a kitchen... lic. gen. contractor
  2. Cherry was more expensive when we bought ours;it looks kind of red to me maple seems warmer to me.
  3. Cherry would be more expensive, also cherry gets darker with age. If you want the same color for the life of the kitchen go with the maple. Hope that helps you out!
  4. Cherry and maple are often used interchangeably in furniture. If it were me, since you are using a glaze, I would have the cabinets made of maple, and stained to look like cherry. Use the glaze to muddy up the finish (glaze is a pigment so the result IS a murkier finish) like an extra dark walnut or medium dark walnut, to age the wood and give it character. You can also distress the wood (create dents, scratches, etc.) and the glaze will highlight these areas, making the cabinets look far older than they are.
  5. Cherry wood would defiantly be consider a warmer look by far it has more of a rich look to and. Where as maple is more honey colored and more country looking. Cherry is more expensive, but i know that maple is more durable and a stronger wood. If you want the cherry look with maple wood you could always get your maple wood with a darker stain to make it feel warmer.
  6. Cherry is darker and more expensive Maple is lighter and cheaper
