what is China's future with the US?

so i'm an ABC, american-born chinese, and I firmly believe in integration into american without loss of culture, and i also firmly believe in the sense of individuality and freedom america has. i.e. only country to have landed peeps on the moon (with 1960s technology) and few places in the world where two conflicting cultures (e.g. Islam and Christianity) can coexist peacefully (e.g. without violence for the most part). however, it'd be remiss to ignore the "sleeping giant" of the far east. anyone give any analysis? --technological innovations in china, or are they still "copying?" --freedom of expression and paranoid chinese government? ever going to change? --economic mismatch between countryside and cities? --crazzzyyy pollution? lol ChaCha BSherman Well, 5 years in Shanghai >> my experience. but you are generalizing about me. parents are chinese, but they lived elsewhere before the US (Singapore, Philippines, Australia, etc.) now, what my Mom said about China was -- yes, it sounds like China bashing but it's what she told me -- (1) "Back in my day, divorce didn't exist. So I had to flee because of an abusive husband" (2) "When you go back to China, they treat Westerners better than their own kind (non-China born Chinese)" the reason why i say "paranoid chinese government" is that even GOOGLE said....censorship was abound in China, and with that latest e-mail break-in scam. what about the pollution? is that really bad, or just overblown? the economy is big in China, no doubt, but is that due to....a consumer-driven model? e.g. 500 million people buying an iPhone....or is there real innovation, biotech, etc wow - i take back my comments BSherman. 1. One thing where China has really innovated and which is top class in the world is the Media Censorship. No other country in the world has been able to harness the power of the Internet to serve the interests of the ruling party as China has been able to do. Our Internet Censorship is one of a kind and CCP takes great interest to equip this with all possible innovation. Clearly US or for that matter no country is even close to this high degree of innovation in this field.

3. For a person who claims to be ABC you have an astonishing lack of knowledge about China. Every ABC that I know has intimate knowledge of China's society, politics, economy, and history. If you are ABC, then that means your parents were born in China. Didn't they ever speak to you about your cultural heritage? Haven't you associated with other Chinese during your life? Don't you have any Chinese friends? Start answering your question by talking with your parents. They have first-hand information to share with you. China has changed greatly over the last 3 decades and will surpass Japan to be the second largest economy on Earth in 2010. Millions of Chinese travel abroad every year and hundreds of thousands study abroad. Economic opportunities and personal freedoms are expanding every day in China. If you are serious about discovering China, then you should make a trip there and see it for yourself. "Paranoid Chinese government"? Please be serious. That sounds like the brain-washed opinion of a Cold War extremist. We live in the year is 2010, not 1950. Today China is the world's largest manufacturer of consumer products and has a middle class numbering 400 million. China is what America and Europe can't be anymore . . . economically successful.
4. China's future is control by The Chinese Communist Party. The CCP very good at internet control. USA's websites such as Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and mySpace are banned in China because the CCP does not like USA websites. Religions is not allowed by the CCP. The CCP banish Falun Gong because it is a religionous group. The CCP sent in People's Liberation Army to beat Tibetan monks because they're also religion. Economy? The CCP tells us we have the best economy in the world. The Party says China is very rich, the richest country in the world. The CCP must not be wrong, because it tells us Tienanmen Square in 1989 never happened. Pollution? What is that? The CCP did not tell us about that, it must not be real.
