  1. I have to admit, As an interior designer it's been a dream of mine for a long time to design an Indian restaurant. Being one of my favorite styes in design (and food!) I've been in many of them over the past 20 years and feel that most fall short with their interiors. With so many beautiful colors, furniture and textiles from Morocco, India and Tibet available there are great possibilities for you. The website I'm sending to you shows great Indian interiors. Keep in mind that most of the photos on the site will be those of residential interiors, you can very easily use the ideas in your restaurant. Keep the colors true to your country. Use the lovely pinks, reds, oranges, golds, greens and blues that are used so frequently in your decor. Lot's of great sari pillows on long benches (that can be placed along the walls in front of smaller tables) great hanging lanterns, rugs, candlelight, and the beautiful artwork from your country. Long saris make great window treatments too! Don't be afraid to use color on the walls. It will give the quickest effect overall. Deep persimmon, mango, dark pink, deep orange-red are some good choices for wall color. If you have a ceiling that can be painted (not a suspended ceiling but a sheetrock or plaster ceiling) paint that a different color than your walls. A third color for your trim. The great thing about Indian decor is that is can be purchased affordably here in the U.S. and maybe elsewhere too... or perhaps you have a good source if you are from India? I've seen great furnishings and textiles around at import shops for a song generally. If you cannot afford to purchase a lot of authentic pieces from India, use a few key pieces in the restaurant. Like a nice ornately carved bench for visitors to wait on and a few other striking pieces here and there. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. I'd be happy to help!
