We have social work kitchens that need an inexpensive way to track inventory.Know any free, simple software?

We need to relieve the burden of paperwork for our nutrition staff in social work outreach kitchens. They have a lot of manual forms for inventory. Need software that wil allow inventory tracking for audit purposes that is simple and accurate. It needs to be free or inexpensive because of limited funding. Any ideas? Anyone have a user-created program that they will share?

1. An Excel spreadsheet would be your best bet, as long as someone can keep up with it. It has features to do simple math calculations, such as totaling or percentages.
