How am I going to make a creative board game design?

I am making a board game such as risk. I am making the game excatly like Risk but I have to make my own board and I dont know how to design it or what cardboard i should do. HELP!!

1. You just need to know what the game risk looks like and do something similar but totally different, then you can just use almost any type of cardboard as long as it is sturdy!
