I really want a French country kitchen. Where do I get this design or wallpaper for my kitchen?

I don't know if this is a stencil or wallpaper. I just got my first house with hubby a few months back an finally figured out what the style I was going for is. Hubby's well to do Grandmother died and left us a bunch of elegant sort of country things. We don't have money to waste. If I could figure out how to do this with wallpaper or stencil I would be so happy! Does anyone know how to do this and if it's something I can buy, where do I get it? It's the French word above the kitchen sink. Thanks so much! http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w126/briannajacob5/3.jpg I did and the images I got were all pretty similar to this one. I started thinking about this after going to a B&B called L'Auberge Provencale. It's a French B&B owned by a French couple. Since I've never gone to France, I couldn't tell you for sure if a French country kitchen should look like this. However google images seem to be consistent with this look. Anyhow I like this look anyway. My debate isn't what kind of kitchen it is. I just really wanted to know how to do the wording. I have been to England and do know this isn't an English Kitchen. Anyway the words are French. That being said I found this. http://www.expressivewalls.com Thanks for your help! Thank you so much Blue Violet. I didn't see your answer before I found the one site. I'm going to look at yours as well. Thanks Blue Violet for answering my question!

  1. La Bonne Vie - the good life. That does not look like a French country kitchen to me. Why don't you google French Country Kitchen
  2. You can either free-hand paint, stencil, or use those peel-and-stick wall words (http://www.wallwords.com/). They can be pretty expensive, especially for larger ones. But you can design custom wall-words & they can be easily peeled down without ruining the wall. If you want to stencil it, just use a stencil, some painter's tape to hold it in place, a stippling brush, and some inexpensive acrylic paint from a craft store. With a stippling brush, just gently pat on the color; don't rub or brush. You can use two or more shades for depth. You can find videos on stenciling on YouTube. If you choose to free-hand paint, use a yardstick and a LIGHT pencil to mark straight lines so it doesn't come out crooked. Good luck!
  3. That's a good question. There are several online options to choose from. I recently bought an inexpensive rta cabinet to complement my gnome wall paper. It all depends on what you are looking for. Best of luck!
  4. Brea, the kitchen is gorgeous. I would definitely classify it as French Country, especially because of all the blue (blue/gray cabinets and granite counters). As you pointed out, that doesn't really matter because whatever it is called isn't really the issue. Blue Violet gave you some great advice. If I were you, I would definitely hand paint it. Buy a stencil for the lettering and choose your phrase. Remember, if it is paint and it doesn't look right when you are done, you simply paint over it. With wallpaper, the removal is a bit more complicated. Follow the link to an excellent site below. They will custom make a phrase stencil to your specs. I priced out the phrase "la bonne vie" in 8 inch letters and depending on the lettering I chose it ran from $20-$40. Very economical not to mention you don't have to try to struggle with lining up each and every letter stencil to make the phrase. On this site, you choose your phrase, font and letter size (in inches) and it will give you a price on the spot. Also on this site, they have pretty good step by step instructions on how to do the stenciling. I might also suggest that you go to Youtube or a similar site and key in "stencil a wall" and you can watch video of people doing it. (I'm a more visual type of person so I find I can learn better when I actually see it done.) Regardless of what you decide to do, have fun. Your kitchen will be gorgeous.
