Is there any reason we shouldn't get ivory cabinets for our country-style kitchen?
We'd really like to get ivory cabinets for our country-style kitchen. We're worried that they're going to look very dated in 10-15 years (or maybe even sooner). Is this a legitimate concern? How much do we have to worry about dirt and smudge? Thanks everyone!

- it is a valid concern. i would go with a good quality white cabinet, with nice simple hardware, timeless. if u want more country use a beadboard cabinet door (doors are easy to replace) use a subway tile or granite backsplash and counter top (honed granite is not shiney so would fit with the country style pretty easily. u can country fy ur kitchen with accessories.
- country style kitchens have been around for a long time any style will seem dated after 15 years but with country the look is timeless the cabinets should be washable
- I think it will look great. I love that look!
- For any white shaded color dirt and smudges is really a big concern. It needs more cleaning than any other dark color. If you are going for a country style kitchen most likely its in the shade of brown but ivory can be incorporate in the design. Wood cabinets like oak or maple can be designed mixed with ivory color and still maintain the touch of country style.
- You will be fine with ivory and in 10-15 years the trend may have resurfaced so worry more about durability of the paint. Can it be washed? Would worn spots add to the character of the look? Would a glazed wood look as good as paint? My wife and I have a colonial blue paint on our cabinets and there is some wear here and there after 20 years. At least with painted cabinets, I can touch up areas.
