Some inventions/innovations that are more boy-oriented?
So I'm doing a National History Day project next year, and the theme is the Innovation in History, so I need to write a paper about how an innovation or invention impacted the world. I'm a girl and last year I did a feminist topic and two of my girl friends did a very boy-oriented topic, Jim Bowie and the Alamo. I only won the district and they got much farther than I did, getting an honorable mention at the nationals. Their project sucked. I think the reason they did so well is because their topic was so atypical, for two girls to do such a boy-oriented topic. This year I would like to do something atypical, but all the boy-oriented inventions are so boring...guns? War? Cars? They make me go to sleep. Can anyone think of any inventions or innovations that are more boy-oriented but that I might think are interesting? Also, if it's more modern that would rock, since I need to have lots of primary sources on it, but it doesn't strictly need to be more modern.

- The history of the Russian made Kalashnikov ( AK-47 ) The Kalashnikov, named for it's maker, is one of the most well known weapons on the planet. You want boy toys...that's as male as it's going to get. It can be found in nearly every country and is still HIGHLY popular today. The history of Sig Sauer is pretty interesting as well.
- condoms
- This is extremely boy oriented. http://www.bebabean.com/product/pptp/index.aspx
- Fleshlight. Definitely the Fleshlight. Hope this helps. Good luck.
- Men didn't only invented guns and cars, they pretty much shaped the whole world as we know it. Be that because the scholarisation and freedom for women it's a very comteporary thing, be that because males have a certain degree of imagination and a visionary capability that is undeniable. many of the things, good and bad, about the world are there because a man or a group of men wanted that way. talk about the good ones since it's better to generate admiration, in your public, than shame . Choose a good story, an american story, a patriotic one, that's why your mates had all ears for their own. Fleming and the penicilline The Boston tea party (that would be more of a wit for your mates) The Coca-cola during WW2 Jefferson and the second emendament (i'm sure you could get some controversy going here). What about the "shores of Tripoli" in the USMC anthem? I heard of it somewhere but i don't remember the historic fact, it would be interesting to hear it again. that are only some ideas coming to my mind now, but i'm sure you could think of a dozen better ones in no time at all. What i suggest is to pick a very plain and reassuring topic to work on and try to "seduce" the audience. A story that can be shared with anyone rather than one that divides. Not saying this is right or fair, but that will get you the attention you seemed to ask. p.s. i forgot the main topi was innovation. Edison, choose one of his works. Ford, not the nazi controversy, just talk about the hard worker. Hey!!! Why not the good ol' Rough Rider Teddy Roosevelt and the Panama Canal.
