What colour floor and wall tiles in the bathroom?
We are going to have the bathroom redone. I would like to tile only one wall, the one that will have the bath and the shower cubical on it, and also the floor. It's quite a big bathroom. Do you think that black floor and wall tiles would be suitable or would it be too dark. Any new interior design ideas? Also what colour shall I paint the other walls? Thanks

- You aren't going to like black tiles with water spots on them! Sounds hedious anyway!
- it really depends what color the rest of your house is. but i think black or white are two very good colors for a bathroom. or maybe even yellow or pink
- First thing you are going to hate about black tile is water spots and soap scum. It will be a never ending battle. You should consider some earth tones.... greens, browns and yellows. and then paint the walls a color that compliments the tile.
- Sounds like too much black to me. I would do a combo - black floor with pearl [ light ] gray wall tile, or charcoal with light gray. great shades with black or gray: pinks cherry red lemon yellow mint, jade green [ blue greens ] blues lavender to purple to plum
- Personally, I like black, I don't think its "hideous". But, yes it might be hard to maintain. A pattern might be better, like black and white, or whatever you prefer. It might be nice to do a tan color(just an example, any color that u like will work) for the bulk of the tiles, then on the walls do a sort of border in the black tiles you like. You could also make a nice pattern on the floor by using the two tile colors together. If you do something like that, you could easily paint the other walls a nice neutral color so it's not too dark. Your bathroom should still reflect the decor in the rest of your house, so look around and see if you get any inspiration for color from any of your other rooms. Other ideas for re-doing your bathroom are: Instead of using a mirror with a cabinet behind it, find a mirror that's well proportioned to your room, and is unique, you will like this much more, and can find somewhere else for the storage you lost.(Consider wire racks, plastic organizers, or baskets for organizing and storing inside your cabinets/vanity) It will be worth it. You can find a variety of mirrors, so make sure to pick one that fits your decor. Also, live foliage in a bathroom really adds warmth and makes it feel comfortable. Consider a small plant or fake flowers for the back of your toilet, turning an ugly necessity into something pleasant. As for lighting, get a really exciting fixture, this can make a huge difference in a room, and you can get one cheap from a store like ikea. Wall decor is important too, wall sconces with candles really set a mood for a bathroom. One thing I love for bathrooms, if you have the space, maybe under a window, is a storage seat. A nice comfortable chair or bench, where the seat lifts up for storage of towels or toiletries, and it looks nice. You could throw a nice afghan or something over the side of it to add a ssplash of color and make the room feel comfy. Get creative with the decor in the space, add color by taking clear glass vases and filling them with fun things.. colored fancy soaps, seashells, rose petals, anything. Candles are great all over your space. Best of luck with the rennovation! Visit www.madisonavenueinteriors.webs.com for more tips!
- If you go with a dark floor and tiles, maybe you can contrast with a lighter paint color (maybe pastels)? What color is vanity? If it's light, I think it would go good with the dark theme. Like other people said, black tiles might be hard to maintain... Good luck!
