Anyone know about the interior designs of castles?

I'm trying to find what a certain part of the castle would be called, what I'm trying to figure out is the part before the throne room, like the throne room would most likely be at the back or center of the castle, well what exactly is the part before it called?, and not like living quarters or anything, the part where you would find the doors and guards... anyone know???
