Help me with my colour scheme for my living room/lounge?

Basically, the room is 25ftx12.5ft, and I dont want it to seem like a corridor. I'm thinking of getting a Walnut hardwood flooring, but would it make the room look small? Also, any ideas on how to do the walls? I was thinking the two long walls and the end wall with the big window could be white, and the other short one with a patterned wallpaper? My sofas are black and I'm either going to buy a walnut or black gloss sideboard. I want the room to look modern/contemporary. However I don't have much knowledge on colour schemes, interior designing etc so any tips? Thanks in advance!

1. A big mistake if you use white, a more softer light beige will be better and a slightly darker beige on the main wall where the fire or T.V. is
2. Treat is as 2 12x12 rooms. Designate a tv area with an area rug. Couch chair perhaps coffee table. Another area rug for either a nice reading area, couple of chairs and sideboard or wll unit. Do not put all of the furniture flush against the wall, angle chairs out Colours should be to your taste
3. never use white walls cause it will look dull and boring and plain. paint the two long walls facing eachother one same color, wall paper is out of style girlfriend and is hard to come off and hard to paint over. the long walls should be sort of a dark color not to dark there are different shades to choose from, then the wall with the window should be a lighter shade of the same color as the other walls, and you can do the same with the wall where you wantd wallpaper do u understand? I see you like black and walnut colors, try blending in one color, so that you can coordinate everything, how about a teal green or a bright red.
4. A good place to start is to find something you like that is either presently there or to purchase...perhaps a rug or a painting. Then pick up one or two colours from that to accessorise with...cushions, lamp, curtains, etc. Fortunately black is a neutral colour so it will be easy to do this. It will also easier then to decide on a colour for the walls. Because it is not a large room, I would advise against dark colours on the walls and I would keep to one neutral colour. Remember that larger paintings make a room look bigger too. A mirror is an excellent way to bring in light/the garden/ or make a room look bigger if it is strategically placed. You will also need a focal point...a fire place, wall unit, etc. Walnut on the floor is fine if you balance it with lighter colours but also keep in mind that dust shows up easier on a dark floor. And most importantly...less is more!!!!! There are website you can look at like Plascon where you can play around with colour to make a room look bigger, lighter, etc.
