Where do you find out how to make the birthday cakes bright colors, polka dot, cute designs, etc.?

I see all these pictures of hot pink/lime green/turquoise birthday cakes with the cute modern designs. I want to make one for a friend's birthday but I cant find anything. Any ideas?

3. get neon food coloring and use icing tubes to make ur own design
4. Wilton makes coloring gel which is better than food coloring. Michael's offers classes on cake decorating and they teach you how to use fondant, which most of the really out there designs use.

6. You could definitely search online, but also I have a great book called The Cake Bible that has a chapter about nothing but different techniques for decorating. It also has all kinds of cakes for different occasions, which has helped me a lot because not only does it list different ingredients that you need to make the cake, but it gives you step by step directions on how to decorate it. Awesome!
7. You need to use paste type food colorings to get the bright colors. Most cooking stores like Nordic Ware carry these and will usually tell you how to use them. Good luck.
