How do I make my tiny living space look modern and sleek?
I think one tenet of modern design is to have minimal furniture. I already have that. What other ideas and tips can you expound upon? The more the better! Tips such as...I'm just throwing them out here...: minimal furniture; grouping things together in twos or threes; clean, geometric lines; sticking to two or three main colors;...please give me lots and lots of tips. Thanks! P.S. Oh yeah, I'm a guy, so something that leans towards a masculine look would be good.

- Mirror all the walls.
- i agree with Mike G. mirrors make your tiny living space more spacious. :) goodluck!
- Gonna disagree here. Forget the mirrors. Go for 1 VERY large piece of 3D art that takes up most of the main wall in your space. The illusion of depth and scale will make the room look larger more than a reflection. With paint, construction foam, and glue, you can make some very modern geometric art to whatever size suits you... Proper lighting placement will do more for a small space than mirrors will also. A mirror reflects whatever is in front of it. If you place a large mirror facing a window, it will function correctly only in good daytime weather. The rest of the time, it will be reflecting darkness, foul weather, or your drapes. With proper lighting, you can close the drapes any time you like and the room will still be a great space. Whenever you go for a minimalistic look, size and scale are more important than any other factor. Each piece needs to make a statement that compliments the whole look. This is what really sells the illusion of space in cramped quarters. Having minimal furniture could go either way. Small spindly furniture will actually make a small room appear smaller. Go for a few large pieces to help create the illusion that the room has more space than it really does. If you want to add height visually, hang your curtains near the ceiling and let them hang all the way to the floor. Avoid tab tops and shades, go for something with a verticle stripe that lengthens the effect. (Wide stripes add a masculine look to this btw) Last tip: In small spaces ALWAYS go for the single dramatic accessory over a group of small items, unless those small items complete a much larger look. For instance, in a 10x12 room, one 5 foot tall obelisk candle (available from Scandinavia) in the corner will do more for a dramatic effect than 3 or 4 normal size candles spread around the room. On the other hand, a tea light candle holder that takes up an entire wall and holds 100 or more candles will create even more drama in that same space. Good luck, have fun! -SD-
- just clean it and make it tidy, after that arrange the things in proper order... then if you are not yet contented with that... then you can ask a help from an interior designer...
