public bathrooms: why do you always have to PUSH to enter and PULL to exit?
shouldn't it be the opposite? after i wash my hands in the bathroom, the last thing i want to do is grab that handle to open to door to exit. so many guys don't wash their hands, and grabbing that handle kind of made the hand washing i just did irrelevant. there's gotta be a reason bathrooms are designed this way, because 90% of them have this setup! WHY!!!!???

- In amongst the inscrutable questions of the universe, you've added a new one.
- Most doors to hallways/walkways don't open outward because you'd hit people walking by. I have seen some bathrooms like that though. And I totally agree with you. Just use your drying towel to grip the handle instead of your bare hand.
- One of the new mysteries of the world, right up there with what came first the chicken or the egg?
- I KNOW! It's disgusting! Are these supposedly, "smart" architect design people even THINKING about this kind of stuff, and now it especially applys with this "swine flu" issue! I usually open push doors with my shoe, so it really irks me when I have to touch the handle! :)
- When you have to go, you have to go NOW! Well, sometimes. Much faster to push than pull a door. Also, in theory everyone has washed their hands, so the door handle inside should actually be cleaner than the one outside. Not that that is always true....
- i don't pee in public bathrooms.- :)
- I can wait until I get to my private bathroom!!
